End Substance Use Disorder Urges Congress to Remove Restrictions on Lifesaving Medications
Today, End Substance Use Disorder joined leading national organizations representing public health, behavioral health, law enforcement, and substance use disorder providers and advocates to urge Congress to remove undue restrictions on prescribing lifesaving medications for opioid use disorder.
In the midst of an accelerating overdose crisis, together we called on Congress to include the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act in the next pandemic response package. The Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act is a historic, bipartisan reform that can save tens of thousands of Americans from overdose deaths every year.
“After the deadliest year on record for overdose deaths, the time to act is now,” said Erin Schanning, president of End Substance Use Disorder. “The Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act will build universal access to the only FDA-approved medication for opioid use disorder that can be prescribed to new patients over telehealth. This legislation is critical to ensuring our loved ones can achieve and sustain recovery during the pandemic and beyond.”
