End Substance Use Disorder President Stands with Rep. Andy Kim to Call for Removal of Federal Red Tape that Blocks Treatment for Millions

Today, End Substance Use Disorder president Erin Schanning joined Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ) in calling for the elimination of federal barriers that prevent patients with opioid use disorder from accessing lifesaving treatment. Rep. Kim has been a leading voice in Congress to pass the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act, a bill championed by End Substance Use Disorder that could save tens of thousands of lives each year from overdose. The Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act received its hearing on Capitol Hill today.

"Congressman Andy Kim is a strong and committed leader for people and families struggling with substance use disorder," said Schanning. "We applaud Congressman Kim for co-sponsoring the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act. This common-sense, bipartisan solution will prevent overdoses, increase participation in treatment, and reduce stigma. Our loved ones with substance use disorder can get better. The Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act will help ensure that all Americans with opioid use disorder can access the affordable, high-quality treatment they need to heal."
