End Substance Use Disorder Recognizes U.S. House’s Bipartisan Legislative Agenda to Address Substance Use Crisis
Today, the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force of the U.S. House of Representatives released its 2021 legislative agenda. The agenda includes 67 bills, which will serve as the basis for legislative action on the substance use and mental health crisis this session. End Substance Use Disorder released the following statement:
“Substance use disorder affects us all, regardless of our party or where we live,” said Erin Schanning, president of End Substance Use Disorder. “With more than 900,000 lives lost to overdoses over the last two decades and millions more currently suffering, the need to pass effective legislation to save lives and promote healing is urgent. We recognize these bipartisan leaders for coming together to identify common-sense solutions to this crisis. Most importantly, we call on them to act now to pass bold reforms to protect our families and communities.”
The Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force is led by Representatives Ann Kuster (D-NH), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), David Trone (D-MD), and Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA). The taskforce’s agenda identifies legislation that can prevent and treat substance use disorder and mental health conditions and promote recovery.
The agenda includes bills that End Substance Use Disorder has prioritized, including the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act, the Parity Enforcement Act, the STOP Fentanyl Act, the Medicaid Reentry Act, the STOP Stigma Act, and many more.
