Tell Congress to act to end overdoses.

Congress is considering historic legislation to help build universal access to a life-saving overdose prevention medicine - buprenorphine. President Biden and President Trump took action to remove some barriers to this safe treatment, which cuts the risk of overdose death in half and is recognized as a gold standard of care for opioid use disorder.

But, immense barriers to accessing this life-saving medication still exist and only Congress can remove them. Due to a stigma-based federal law that discriminates against people with opioid use disorder, only about 1 in 10 healthcare providers across the country can provide this life-saving treatment (even though all healthcare providers can freely prescribe opioids that contributed to the overdose crisis without similar restrictions). These barriers cause thousands of preventable overdose deaths ever year.

2021 was the deadliest year on record for overdoses and the need to get this treatment to people suffering from opioid use disorder is urgent.
